the image is 38.0 cm in front of the lens. Determine the focal length of the lens.

1/o + 1/i = 1/f

f = i*o / (i+o)

They give you object distance (o) and image distance (i). An image in front of the lens is taken to be negative. Plugnchug to get f, which will also be negative.
