What kind of camera/camcorder should I get?

I am wanting a new camera/camcorder. I know nothing about Cameras but I need something simple and not way to expensive (under 500) but I have no idea what to look for. I AM NOT TRYING TO BUY YOUR CAMERA JUST LOOKING FOR IDEAS ON WHAT TO BUY.

They show the prices and there are plenty of customer
reviews. Idk, I don't really like asking what products I should
buy on Yahoo Answers because it feels really bias.
